Unemployment EMPIRE -During the later years of the empire farming was done on large estates called latifundia that were owned by wealthy men who used slave labor. - A farmer who had to pay workmen could not produce goods as cheaply. Many farmers could not compete withthese low prices and lost or sold their farms. - This not only undermined the citizen farmer who passed his values to his family, but also filled the cities with unemployed people. - At one time, the emperor was importing grain to feed more than 100,000 people in Rome alone. These people were not only a burden but also had little to do but cause trouble and contribute to an ever increasing crime rate.
INFO -Unemploymentis the condition of a person who is out of work and actively looking for a job. -Unemployment contributes to numerous problems for jobless individuals, their families, and society as a whole. -For the individual, it causes a loss of income and, in many cases, emotional distress or a loss of self-respect. For society, it indicates lost production and may lead to increased levels of homelessness, criminal activity, and antisocial behavior.
MODERN -Taxes on corporations and businesses. The most frustrating aspect of these taxes is that they are a mere fixed cost of doing business. If the costs become too high, businesses move their companies — and the jobs they create — to other parts of the world. Eliminate this barrier to job creation, tax individuals directly through their purchases, and enjoy a more fiscally sound and accountable government.
-Unemployment is commonly measured by a statistic called an unemployment rate. An unemployment rate is the percentage of jobless individuals in a community's total labor force—that is, in the segment of the population that is willing and able to be employed. - Business executives, economists, and government officials use unemployment rates as indications of economic health.

Hi i’m Brenna Naughton I am a 7th grader at Nagel middle school in Cincinnati Ohio. Here at Nagel we learn a lot about ancient Rome. For this specific project we have to try to fix Rome so it does not collapse like it did. For this project I have unemployment. If you could please answer some questions I have I would very much appreciate it! thank you for your time!
1. What are some ways you would of fixed Romes unemployment problem? 2. I understand that many Romans were unemployed because of slave labor. Were there any other causes of unemployment that you have researched? 3. I understand that Diocletian set worth minimum wage laws to help with the inflation and unemployment. Do you know of any other emperors that attempt to solve these problems and how?
